Jesse William Shires

Jesse William Shires, 66, of Xenia, IL, passed away at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora, IL.

Jesse was born on May 21, 1952, in Montgomery, Alabama, to the late William Shires and Betty Shefka, who survives.  He served his country in the Marine Corps.   He married Barbara Greenwood Shires on July 3, 2010, in Xenia, IL.  In his early years, Jesse worked for CFI, Certified Flooring Installers.  He enjoyed being outdoors and loved gardening.

Jesse is survived by his wife, Barbara Shires of Xenia, IL; mother, Betty Shefka of Xenia, IL; children, Syl Shires of Rinard, IL, and Rebecca Shires of Olney, IL; stepchildren, John Greenwood of Xenia, IL, Josh Greenwood and Racheal Ellis of Louisville, IL, and Curtis Greenwood and wife Brittiney of Flora, IL; grandchildren, A.J. Shires and Selena Shires; stepgrandchildren, Macie Greenwood, Desirae Greenwood, Johnathon Greenwood, Rashel Odem, Hollie Odem, Bryce Greenwood, Maddox Greenwood, Matthew Ellis, Colten O’Brien, and Henry O’Brien; siblings, Charlie Skaj and wife Peggy of Hamel, IL, Roy Skaj of Bridgeview, IL, and Yvonne Rogers of Benton, IL; aunt Ruth DeVaughn of Bourbonnais, IL, and several nieces and nephews and special friend, Kato the cat.  He was preceded in death by his father, William Shires, and baby sister, Gloria Shires.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at Strong Tower Church in Flora, IL.  Expressions of sympathy should take the form of donations to the family to assist with expenses.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.kohnfuneralhome.com.
