Mrs. Mabel Lauderback, 93, of Charleston, IL, formerly of Flora, IL, passed away at 2:57 a.m., Thursday, July 27, 2017, at Hilltop Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Charleston, IL. Mabel was born March 3, 1924, to Benjamin and Grace (Knowls) Oaster in Clay County, IL. In 1946, she married William Lauderback in Flora, IL. He preceded her in death in September, 1962. Mabel worked at the Shoe Factory in the 1970’s, sold Avon, and was a waitress at many places in Flora including the Holland Truck Stop, Elks Club, and Five Brothers. Mabel worked up until 81 years of age. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Mabel made friends wherever she went and always left them with a smile on their faces. Her greatest love was her family, and she worked selflessly to raise her three children.
Mabel is survived by her three children, Donna England and husband Terry of Kalkaska, MI; Art Lauderback and special friend Lisa Canivez of Charleston, IL; and Jim Lauderback and wife Doreen of Deerfield, IL; grandchildren, Jodi Shields and husband Cameron of Wilmington, IL; Julie Buckham and husband David of Irvington, KY; Josh England of Kalkaska, MI; Jon England and wife Liz of Cleveland, OH; Adam Lauderback of Lincoln, NE; Chelsea Lauderback and Nathan Lauderback of Deerfield, IL; and 14 great-grandchildren; Bobby, Ryan, Aubin, McKenzie, Micah, Isaac, Shiloh, Carter, Annabelle, Edith, Crosby, George, Henry, and Daisy. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Eldon Oaster, and two sisters, Irene Scammahorn and Mary Hamner.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2017, at Kohn Funeral Home in Flora, IL. Interment will immediately follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, August 4, 2017, at the funeral home.
