Jerry L. Griffith

Mr. Jerry L. Griffith, 78, of Flora, Illinois, passed away at 4:55 a.m., Thursday, July 13, 2017, at his home.  Jerry was born in Xenia, Illinois, on June 7, 1939, to Clifford and Bernice (Brown) Griffith.  On July 20, 1962, he married Doris Harned Griffith in Salem, Illinois, and they spent over 55 loving years together.  He worked for the Flora Schools as a custodian and bus driver for several years.  He also worked for World Color Press and went on to work for the Flora Housing Authority.  After retirement, he worked maintenance at Best Western.  Jerry proudly served our country in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of the Harter Township Fishing Club.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #14 and Modern Woodman of America for over 70 years.  He was a member of the Bethlehem Christian Church.  Jerry was an avid fisherman and liked to keep busy.  He loved spending time at Trago Lake with his friends and family from the 1960s until 2017. 

Jerry is survived by his wife, Doris Griffith of Flora, IL, sons, J.D. Griffith and companion Janice Gavin of Sullivan, IL, Eric Griffith and wife Susan of St. Petersburg, FL, grandchildren, Doug Griffith and wife Ruthie of Flora, IL, Denise Henderson and companion Jacob Rutger of Orchardville, IL, Michael Frisco of Tampa, FL, Haley Schimanski of Jacksonville Beach, FL, great-grandchildren, Jacen Robert Rutger, Jackson Paul Griffith, and Bradley Austin Griffith, brother Larry Griffith and wife Judy of Flora, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 brother, Wayne Griffith.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Kohn Funeral Home in Flora, IL, with full military rites being accorded.  Visitation will be from 12 – 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at the funeral home.  Following the services, cremation rites will be accorded.  Expressions of sympathy should take the form of donations to Bethlehem Christian Church or Clay County Hospice.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.kohnfuneralhome.com.
