Mr. James W. Tackitt, 93, of Flora, Illinois died at 10:50 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2016, at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora, Illinois.  James was born January 10, 1923 in Xenia, IL, to William & Gertie (Sweeney) Tackitt. He married Naomi Colclasure on January 4, 1941 in St. Louis, MO. After getting his family started he joined the United States Army and was a member of the 1st Calvary Division, serving in the Philippines and Japan during WWII. After returning home from the war James went to work as a mechanic at Luttrell’s Garage and was the school bus manager for the Flora School District.   James was long time member of the Oak Street Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and was the music director for many years.  In addition to his love for his church, he was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and he loved the outdoors where he spent a lot of time hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting and shooting guns.   He was also a tough opponent when it came to Texas Holdem, which he enjoyed playing with his family and friends. 

James is survived by a son, Lester (Mary)Tackitt of Ingraham, IL, 2 daughters, Breneda Johnson of Clay City, IL, Ruth (Ed) Trowbridge of Flora, IL, 10 Grandchildren, Janie (Drew) Simpson of Florida, Sandy  (Mike) Pratt of Oswego, IL, Kathy (Darrell Smith) Johnson of Newton, IL, Doug Tackitt of Kokomo, IN, David (Rebecca) Tackitt of Nevada, Darrin (Kelly) Tackitt of Montgomery, IL, Tony (Carol) Myers of Flora, IL, Jodi (George) Hand of Red Oak, TX, Bethanie (Ricky)Huffman of Noble, IL, Nathaniel (Brianna) Trowbridge of Albion, IL,  12 Great Grandchildren: Jennifer Martin of Oswego, IL Chris (Diane) Johnson of Montgomery, IL, Corey Johnson of Naperville, IL, Penny Johnson of Montgomery, IL, Bobbi Tackitt of St. Charles, IL, Ryan Tackitt of Montgomery, IL, Rachael Tackitt of St. Charles, IL, Miranda (Roman) Durre of Flora, IL, Kamryn Trowbridge of Albion, IL, Connor Trowbridge of Albion, IL, Cash Trowbridge of Albion, IL, Olivia Huffman of Noble, IL, 12 Great-great Grandchildren ,1 sister, Delores (Walter) Brewer of Salem, IL , and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, December 8, 2016, at Kohn Funeral Home.   Friends may call from 10:30 until time of service on Thursday. Interment will immediately follow at Oak Mound Cemetery in rural Xenia with full military rites.   Expressions of sympathy should take the form of donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.kohnfuneralhome.com.
