James A. Eastberg

Mr. James A. Eastberg, 66, of Fairfield, Illinois, died at 12:02 a.m., Thursday, April 16, 2015, at his residence.  James was born on November 17, 1948, in Marquette, Michigan, to Ralph James and Caroline Jane (Smith) Eastberg.  Jim married Carla Brissenden in Boynton Beach, Florida in 2001.  Jim graduated from high school in 1966.  Not long after his high school career, Jim joined the United States Army, where he honorably served his country until 1974.  After returning from duty, Jim took a civilian job in the drafting department at AllSteel Manufacturing Company in Aurora, Illinois.  Jim later began working at National Hydro Systems in West Chicago, where he started his training career as a quality control engineer.  Moving nearer to family, Jim moved to Fairfield and began his 27 year career at Hella, Inc. in Flora, Illinois, working as a quality control engineer.  Jim also spent time working at NAL until his health no longer permitted.  Jim loved traveling across the country in the open air on his motorcycle and camping with his family.  He enjoyed spending time outdoors working in the yard and around the house.  Jim truly cherished his time with his family. Above all, his grandchildren were the true joy in his life. 

Jim is survived by his wife, Carla Eastberg of Fairfield, IL, children, Michelle Lynn Schraner and life partner, Sammie Peach of Evansville, IN, Kevin James Eastberg and wife Danielle of Villa Rica, GA, Jessica Renee` Kohn and fiancé Stephen Vaughan, of Fairfield, IL, grandchildren, Steven Michael Schraner of Murphysboro, IL, Christopher Mark Schraner of Princeton, IN, Cory Ryan Schraner and wife Natalie of Camby, IN, Ashley Renee Schraner of Princeton, IN, Shane Anthony Schraner of Mt. Carmel, IL, Kayli Renee` Kohn of Fairfield, IL, and Sophia Rose Vaughan of Fairfield, IL, great-grandchildren, Peyton Cheyanne Crecelius, Christi Mikayle Crecelius, and one more on the way, sister-in-law, Utske Van Gunst of FL, nephew, Kwentin Eastberg of FL, niece, Meike Eastberg and fiancé Justin Dean of FL, and very special friends, Jay, Albert, and Dell of WI, and Bob and Sharon “the card lady” Bastnagel of Evansville, IN.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents, uncle, Stan Smith, and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Friends may call from 2 – 4 p.m., Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Kohn Funeral Home in Flora, IL.  As per Mr. Eastberg’s wishes, cremation rites will follow.  Expressions of sympathy should take the form of donations to the Scranton Fund and may be received at the funeral home.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.kohnfuneralhome.com.
