Harvey B. Engelmeier

December 9, 1923 ~ October 6, 2015 (age 91) 91 Years Old

Harvey B. Engelmeier, 91, of Flora, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2015, at the Gardens in Flora, just one day after his 69th Wedding Anniversary.

He was born the son of Frank, Sr. and Ellen (Dunigan) Engelmeier on December 9, 1923, in Flora.  He married Wanda Jean Eaton on October 5, 1946 at the Christian Church in Flora, Illinois.  He was a proud WWII veteran who served in the 7th Army 44th Infantry Batallion in the European Theatre of War.  He was a retired lineman with the City of Flora Electric Department. He was a former Civil War Reenactor with the 15th Arkansas NW Volunteer Army CSA, participating in encampments all around the country. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather who will be sadly missed by all.

My dad was so my hero and was a kind and giving man to anyone who needed help without question.  He dearly loved his family unconditionally, he might growl and get upset but only because he couldn't always take our hurts away.  It was dad's way of coping with life’s uncertainties concerning his family.  His passing has caused a huge hole in our hearts that will never heal, but, we were so blessed to have had him in our lives.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Jean Engelmeier of Flora, Illinois;  son and their other daughter Micheal (Kristal) Engelmeier of Flora, Illinois; adopted son, Charlie Lee of Salem, Illinois; Sister Bernadine Landreth of Flora, Illinois; sister-in-law Dorothy Engelmeier of Flora, Illinois; Grandchildren Kristy (Karl) Kramer, Brandii (John) Newby, Rodd (Jodi) Engelmeier; Great-Grandchildren Lizabeth, Allie and Bianca Engelmeier, Cody Houston, Brianna Newby, Kendrick and Kennedy Kramer, and Jonah and Bodee Woomer; and Great-Great-Grandson, Jace Harvey Engelmeier, who will carry on his name.

Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Linda Sue (Engelmeier) Woomer, son-in-law, Joe Woomer, grandson, Tony Lee Woomer, brother, Frank, Jr., sisters, Margaret Billington and Evelyn Engelmeier, niece, Mary Ellen Gidcumb, and their cats, Garf and Jack.

Harvey requested to be cremated and his ashes comingled with Jeans ashes after her passing.  Services will be held at that time where their cremains will be interred at Elmwood Cemetery on the family lot.  Expressions of sympathy should take the form of donations to Fur a Good Paws and may be received at the funeral home.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Kohn Funeral Home in Flora, Illinois. Online condolences may be expressed at www.kohnfuneralhome.com.
