Mr. Edward E. “Zip” Zimmerman, Jr., 85, of Dade City, Florida, formerly of Ligonier, Indiana, died at 12:36 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at HPH Hospice in Brooksville, Florida.  Edward was born in Lamberton, Minnesota, on June 28, 1929, to Edward and Alyce (Bloedow) Zimmerman.  After high school, Edward attended Iowa State College, studying economics.  In 1951, Edward joined the United States Marine Corps and served at Camp Pendleton in California during the Korean conflict, proudly serving his country.  In autumn of 1952, he continued his education at Iowa State University, graduating in 1956.  While attending school at Iowa State, Edward met Beverly Rudy.  On November 22, 1953, while traveling home for a visit, Edward and Beverly stopped in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and were married.  Edward worked as an agronomist for several years before taking a position with Funk’s G. Seed Company where he served as regional manager until his retirement in 1983.  After retiring, the Zimmerman’s took to the open road in their motor home which they enjoyed for over 20 years.  Edward was an avid photographer rarely seen without a camera in his hand. 

Edward is survived by his wife, Beverly (Rudy) Zimmerman of Dade City, Florida, 4 children, Karen Whitworth and husband Jim of Dade City, Florida, Bruce Zimmerman of Elkhart, Indiana, Crystal Goldsmith and husband Skip of Tuxedo, North Carolina, and Amy Fought and husband Doug of Middlebury, Indiana, 7 grandchildren, Nathan Aker and wife Sarah of Tampa, Florida, Melissa Whitworth of Dade City, Florida, Trace Goldsmith of Tuxedo, North Carolina, Montana Goldsmith of Tuxedo, North Carolina, Haylie Runge and husband Josh of Indianapolis, Indiana, Emily Fought of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Eric Fought of Middlebury, Indiana,  2 great-grandchildren, Sadie and Aubrie Aker, and 1 sister, Patricia Arnett of Rochester, Minnesota.  Edward was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 nephew, David Arnett. 

Graveside services will be held at 5 p.m., Saturday, April 25, 2015, at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora, Illinois with military rites.  Expressions of sympathy should take the form of donations to the church or ministry of the donor’s choice and may be received at Kohn Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.kohnfuneralhome.com.
