Dorothy M. Smith

Mrs. Dorothy M. Smith, 85, of Flora, Illinois, died at 3:10 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.  Dorothy was born in Altamont, Illinois, on August 8, 1929, to Emil and Rosa (Rethorn) Fischer.  On January 20, 1948, Dorothy married Frank G. Smith in Vandalia, Illinois.  Dorothy spent her life as a homemaker to her family.  She was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church.  Dorothy enjoyed antiques and had been collecting for over 70 years.  Her love of antiques began as a child when she would attend auctions with her family and occasionally be allowed to bid on an item by her mother.  Most of all, Dorothy truly loved her family. 

Dorothy is survived by her children, Mike G. Smith of Flora, IL, and Sandy Jo Smith of Flora, IL, 2 sister-in-laws, Bonnie Smith of Sandoval, IL, and Donna Smith of Newman, IL, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank, in October of 1999, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters.    

Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at Kohn Funeral Home in Flora, Illinois.  Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of the service at Kohn Funeral Home.  Interment will immediately follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Flora.  Expressions of sympathy should take the form of donations to Faith Lutheran Church or Clay County Hospice.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.kohnfuneralhome.com.
